Worldplay has been a huge part of literature for hundreds of years, from Shakespeare to Bob Hope, to even movie Musicians such as Jason Mraz or Snoop Dogg. Word play can be used to get a point across, to keep the reader reading, or just get a laugh out of the reader. Authours who use wordplay tend to be the best ones in my opinion.
The reason that wordplay is so important to literature is what i call the blah factor. If There is no humor or repition, or exclamation in a peice of literature then what good is the writing. Nobody will ever want to read it. Without worldplay i think that a piece of writing would be like a dinner table without food. Whats the point? Authours use it as expression, exclamation, and for humor.
Wordplay is also a way of life which obviously always starts with literature. Teenagers user there own lexicon such as "yo" and "whats up" while parents use "thats fly" or "gee wilikers bat man." What im trying to say is that its not only literature that is effected by wordplay but also everyday life. However, it does all start with literature and writing, wether is be books, scripts, or cereal boxes.
